"You Only Write Once Scholarship Slam" Power Poetry

Location

With coffee I can see,

“Black, please,”

“That would be $1.60,”

Pulling out the pocket change,

That was supposed to be my college savings.

With coffee I can see,

How crazy my scholastic life can be,

21 units each time to make sure I succeed,

Even with being Captain of the tennis team.

With coffee I can see,

That I will never be able to satisfied with just ice tea,

Because staying in the classroom is something that I do until three,

Even with this I still leave the classroom with jubilee.

With coffee I can see,

That the college life will never be free,

But with this scholarship maybe I could get a degree,

So, that I don’t have to flee.

With coffee I can see,

That I already have my associates’ degree,

But with that a job isn’t always a guarantee,

So with this I know that I need to get a bachelor’s degree.

I know that some might disagree,

But for now I’m an enrollee,

And in hopes to transfer to a University,

That is what my dream would be.

Right now I need to study,

To continue to be a devotee,

All I need is some more coffee,

“Black, please.”
