You Only See a Smile

You look everyday
You only see a smile
The girl that says she's okay
Cries at home for a while

The mask hides her dreams
Her cynicism and nostalgia
Whether or not they see
She says is up to the camera

Her true wish is to escape
From this life full of deadlines
For a life of whimsy and fantasy
Sweeter and more sublime

But of course it won't happen
Her dreams won't come true
Her life will stay linear
With a hint of déjà vu

She wakes up from her dreams
With expectations far from trivial
Reality surges in
In her eyes all the more dismal

Yet still everyday you look
You only see a smile
On the mask hiding cynicism and pain
While she cries at home for a while.
