You Know Me

I am the hairy Mexican girl your daughter makes fun of at school

The one whose mother you don't look in the eyes when she's your cashier at the gas station

You know me

I am the revolutionary your president tries to poison with ballpoint pens

The one that promises liberation to the black and brown people you fear

You know me

And you hate me

So does your country

That confines me to reservations and leaves me with no place to wash my hands

And you hate me

So you protest my own life with guns in my church

And my brother's blood on the asphalt

We both know

Our tides will soon crash into each other

And America will drown in our wrath
