Like You

Side-by-side

dressed alike

double takes

"Are you two twins?"

My little shadow

almost as old as I am

you look up to me

but you have no idea how much

I look up to you.

Your sweet voice relaxes me

explaining my homesickness is natural.

You hang up

and waves of sadness overcome me again.

I take an hour to reflect

on random memories of you.

My door opening and light taps on my back

"Are you awake, Ate?"

Ate. A simple Tagalog word that means so much.

Ate. Noun.

Meaning older sister, cousin.

Used out of respect.

So many attachments to a single word.

It means unconditional love, happiness.

You are my happiness.
