You were okay.
We had a conversation.
We laughed together,
you reminded me of the good in life.

But today-
I found you.
I've lost people before.
But this was different.

You were there the day I was born.
You cared for me when my mother could not.
You were always a phone call
or a short drive away.

You are gone.
I have lost a part of myself.
I thought you would always be here.
I thought you would see me graduate college,
get married, and have children.
But you can't now.
You took your last breath.

And because of you,
I have learned not to take the people I love for granted.
You never know what tomorrow holds.
So you have taught me, even in death.
To love with all I've got,
And always do what's best.
