A Year in the Making

What an interesting feat

to recall

What Hannah was composed of in January

of 2017

What made her tick?

What kept her going?

Junior year was kicking her butt

That memory remains

Yet how was she swimming through piles of homework

without fins?

How was she combating AP’s and hurdling exams

without oxygen?

How did she function without her

other half?

Oh doesn’t that month sound as sweet as the flowers it brings?

Single words capable of melting the eight inches of snow off my porch

Who was Hannah back in January, if she didn’t begin

until June?

Where were her convictions, hopes and dreams if they found traction in the sand of

summer’s beach?

How can you live seventeen years thinking you’ve found all that life can offer

And reach eighteen with the terrifying knowledge that there’s

If an acquaintance in May can become an integral second half to your heart

in June

If golden rays of sun can caress your face to a dark shade of bronze

in July

If dreams can solidify and futures can become clear

in August

Then who’s to say I know what comes next?

i learned

The more I learn, the more I comprehend, the more I understand,

The less I know about the world

The more I know about myself
