Write For You

You asked me to write for you,

So I wrote of a boy with stars in his eyes,

A bright soul, and his heart on his sleeve.

I wrote about how he died and how the light left his eyes

The sun faded from his soul and his heart was broken.

You looked at me differently then,

How could I have been so cruel,

To turn beauty into a grim death.

You didn’t know that I was the boy,

And it was you that broke my heart.

You asked me to write about you,

But we grew apart, and I wrote about others.

Others with your blue eyes and half smile,

Others with the dimple on your right cheek always stuck out.

I wrote about how you thrived,

How you lived and loved and left a legacy.

I wrote about you, with a different name,

And when I realized I looked at myself differently.

How could I have forgotten,

that it was you that was my muse.

I didn’t know that it was you

And it broke my heart.

You asked me to remember you,

So I wrote about you with your name.

I wrote about the soccer player with short hair,

The one who loved too deep and got broken too easily.

I wrote about how you died,

How you broke inside and no one saw behind your eyes.

I wrote about you, with tears in my eyes.

When I realized what I lost, I saw things differently,

How could I have been so cruel,

When all you’d done was love me?

I didn’t know I loved you,

Until you broke my heart.
