to write beautiful free verse

a pretentious dream

to peel away clunky prose

find rhythmic words clean

mechanical pencil, weapon of choice

to write and write, uncover a voice

so repressed and broken

bent out of shape

to sing my way out of 

this self-dug grave!

an escape she seeks

and this I've found 

artificial paradise

in words underground

to clip one's wings

unthinkable sin

to hold back potential 

one holds within

to crush a dream

pretentious at that

is to mow down a garden

sterlize a habitat
