Worth It

I am told to enjoy this last year,

And to remember every moment

Because there would be many I would hold dear.

But I became my own opponent.

I felt stuck in a circle of lies.

Because I though the future would only bring me debt,

And only burden would be my prize.

It took time to realize I had the wrong mindset.

I learned that life is a war

That I had to win to be content.

From a life of poverty I swore

That my education would be money well spent.

My future will not be hindered by my past,

For I have learned to breathe.

I will spend every moment as it were my last.

For it is not my turn to sip from the River Lethe.
