Work

Work

It feels like so much work that we’re putting in

At first it was easy when love first began

Now it’s just fussing and fighting no end

I’m mad at my lover who’s also my friend

I don’t want this stress I feel every day

I don’t like this game I don’t want to play

It’s love without trust, how long can that last?

When our present is haunted by ghosts of the past

Would relief even come if we said goodbye?

Or would our hearts break and part of us die

I told you forever and you said the same

Now the days drag on, a relationship strained

It’s like you don’t get me and I don’t get you

So we just keep fighting until we’re both through

We get nowhere and decide on nothing

As the frustration builds what good does this bring?

Are we hanging on just to hang on?

Are we writing the lyrics to our sweet love song?

Is this just a phase? Or will this prolong?

I don’t want to stay; I don’t want to move on

It’s a true labor of love, we work to maintain

The equilibrium of love balancing pain

At first it was easy when love first began

Now it’s just fussing and fighting no end
