Words I'll Never Say

You're hard on me because you know I can

You're hard on me because you know you can't

You want me to make it like you wanted it yourself

You don't want me like you with my dreams upon a shelf

Please stop living through me if this isn't where you want to be

And don't ask me to be something I'm not I'm focusing on me

Please don't misunderstand I'm not trying to be rude

But owing my success to you is something I won't do

You're my guidance but you give up when students bash your ego

You're my teacher but you blow up when students tell you no

When you're wrong and she's right there's not reason for a fight

But we fight it anyway every single day

Ignorance is thriving in these musty college halls

Book smarts and street smarts are not the same at all

To make it in the world you must be more than average

To make it you have to break it and twist it just to salvage.
