Words Hurt Others As Much As They Hurt You

Sticks and stones may break my bones

But words will never hurt me,

Is what they told me long ago

But now I find that it averts me.

People grow and so do minds,

And with it ways to kill.

After growing with some time

I find that words like blood can spill.

What I say can inspire her,

But remember it can hurt.

I see her eyes look through me

And reveal mistakes I blurt.

I’m sorry for what i said,

Behind closed doors in circles.

I didn’t mean to cause her harm.

I didn’t mean those words as hurtful.

And yet she heard them anyway;

Out of sight and out of mind.

But then I saw her walk away,

With the tears filled in her eyes.

I ran to her and apologized

For what i never should have said.

But the deed had then been done,

And she turned away instead.

Things have changed since then

And I know now to be careful.

For the day I almost lost a friend;

The day that taught me to be fearful.

Sticks and stones may break my bones

But words will never hurt me,

Is the biggest lie I’ve ever heard

Since youth has up and left me!
