Wishful Thinking

I wish for the day when girls can be girls and boys can be boys ,

in whatever way that they enjoy.

Where the bread in his kitchen is enough for meals,

and all extra is divided without contracts or deals.

When a nation’s waste is a feast for the swine,

and compassion and honor are traits of mankind.

When lies are a weapon and truth is a shield,

and knowledge a blade we can sharpen and yield.

When we know we are human from the sadness we bare,

and lives are extinguished, anytime...anywhere.

When we break from a history of fear and regret,

we stop looking back but start looking ahead.

When we vow to remember and dare to forget,

and we follow our path with no judgement or threat.

When we prosper as sisters and brothers, no culture or creed,

no hate or dissention or anger or greed.

I wish for the day when humanity wins

where people aren't strangers, but equals and friends.
