Wishes and wants

1 John 2:17

17 And the world is passing away with all its desires,

but the person who does the will of God remains forever.

Wishes and wants

I think I would, I think I could ... that’s where it all begins.

We stack up our desires ... and fit them in a mold.

Mostly of our making ... even though we won’t admit it

being guided by our humanity ... left out in the cold.

It seems to happen to all of us ... but we pay it no mind.

It won’t make a difference ... for our flesh is way too strong.

It uses the mind to manipulate ... and it is far from kind.

It pulverizes all in its way ... ignoring right or wrong.

The flesh has no barometer ... it accepts only what it knows.

That is why a constant battle ... rages throughout one’s life.

The flesh only attacks in times when weakness seems to rule

or uncertainty, fear and lust ... demands theirs through strife.

It makes very little difference ... how long the battle lasts

even memory banks seem to be ... in flesh’s control.

It opens past experience ... and throws it at your feet.

to prevent feelings from getting closer to the whole.

Yes, it is quite a culprit ... that drinks depravity like a treat.

It overfills itself ... with every opportunity it has.

It is so amazing ... that it seems to rule the whole

of religious experiences ... your memory from the past.

Is it than a wonder ... that most that we remember

are the things which bothered us ... and stir up our emotion?

Selective good is thrown in ... to keep us enough off balance

to remove us from loving perfectly ... our Lord in devotion.
