The Wisdom of Silence

Be one who sits and smiles,
Who nods to give consent
While others loudly crow
And boastfully invent
-
You've learned a golden truth
Which silence can convey:
"With grace mete out your words,
Then bite your tongue and pray."
-
Mentally lightheaded;
The one who doesn't know
You'll be misunderstood
"He's simple" or "she's slow!"
-
It's best be thought a dunce,
Than open up your lips
The mutterings of fools
Will lead to careless slips
-
The one who sits with patience
May be the brightest guy
Don't judge the quiet as shallow:
There's more than meets the eye
-
Some will talk and chatter
Just smile with stoic face
Consistently make silence
Your attribute of grace
