The Wings

Once upon a midnight dream
I conjured up a magic scheme.
Some wings to help me leave this place
Where my troubles I could erase.
These wings would take me far away
Where I would make my long stay.

I might flap and flutter
Stop and shutter,
But would always find my way
To that place right by the bay
Where I might escape this,
And enter a world of far more bliss.

Some might sadden from my leaving,
But most would save themselves from grieving.
For no one misses a thing with wings,
And who so loudly sings
About a day when they can be free,
And finally be who they want to be.
