Winding Feelings

Location

My feelings are rewritten and straining

as I see others struggling to make it in life

The winds in my heart are changing

I remember when my opinion of the world was so loving, so unbending

but now I see many lost people hurting others with an unwelcomed, welcoming knife

My feelings are rewritten and straining

When the once-happy room of a child… so warm, so inviting

is now the forsaken tomb of the babe that ended his time

The winds in my heart are changing

When we are encouraged to succeed with proper schooling

but the school is the graveyard – the scene of the bloody, massive crime

My feelings are rewritten and straining

When politicians claim that circumstances will be improving

yet we see the strained backs of our fathers, the cracked smiles of our mothers

The winds in my heart are changing

But then I turn to look at your face that never ceases to be smiling

and I am reminded of what it means to be understood, protected, and loved by another

My feelings are rewritten and straining

The winds in my heart are changing
