Why We Take Latin

There are some students who strive for the best

And aim the highest above all the rest

They ace every test and do every homework,

For becoming Valedictorian, I guess, is well worth it.

Then there are those who want a high GPA,

And desire those points that college conveys.

Or maybe one kid finds vocabulary difficult,

And perhaps this class can aid SAT results.

Another races for language three years credit,

And offer to colleges like they won’t forget it.

There are some kids, who can’t comprehend enough,

His hope for redemption is Venatio and Sententia.

And amazing enough that kid never gives up,

Most likely because Spanish was boring and rough.

Some students are thrilled that we do not speak,

No memorizations of dialogs to keep.

They cower in French, or Spanish, or whatever,

Or maybe enjoy it, though I doubt it ever.

And then there are others, who want purple stars,

Seven points that build up to see who goes far.

They look at the board and marvel and stare,

Just waiting for more that they can compare.

But what about me? Why do I still come three years later?

I merely took a chance and ended up greater.

For I seek the classes I enjoy to attend,

And won’t in turn regret, when it comes to an end.
