Why I Do It

Why I Do It

Why do I feel this way?

Why do I always need to talk to you, to text you,

To ask you about your day?

Why do I find myself thinking about you

In the middle of the night when I am lonely?

Why do I hold always sleep in the old t-shirt that was yours

And wear the hair tie you left on my dresser

And cuddle every night with the stuffed animal you gave me?

Why do I miss you so much when you aren’t here?

I do it because I have no other choice.

I do it because without you everything is colorless,

A world of dull and lifeless grays.

I do it because I am playing a melody

Whose harmony sounds like your heartbeat.

I do it because there is no point in living a life without love.

Not just any kind of love, a special love,

The kind of love that I can only get when I am in your arms.

I do it because I miss you so much when you aren’t here.

I do it because I love you.
