Whose law we live by?

2 Peter 2:9 New English Translation (NET Bible)

9 —if so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from their trials, and to reserve the unrighteous for punishment at the day of judgment

Rules of darkness most surely are known by the name.

Taking selected places in land’s appointed government

Smiling faces with glassy eyes showing the total game

That oft evil is playing with the lot to their detriment.

Only the power of God can withstand that onslaught.

Although the toll seems to be in unmeasurable pains

It seems that destiny will cover just the lonesome thought.

Of them who accept Jesus and count this as their gain

Pretty suits and affluence crawling in their palaces

Princes of this world, counting their dark blessings.

Daily bread and desire topped off with hidden fallacies.

As they swim in the mire of their second-guessing

Swallowing iniquity and digesting it in pleasure

Power and greed for desert in uncertain harmony

No one here to trust now as they take by measure

All that they hunger for towards their dark destiny

Products of sin and depravity are well-understood by humanity.

Prepared for the showdown shortly; it seems not too far

Completely without vision, we are led by the “informed” blind.

To invest in everlasting agony without a drop from their favorite bar.
