This Is Who I Am

Who am I?

Ha!

Someone you will soon learn to despise

Or even like.

Doesn’t really matter,

I will never really know what you think of me.

For the reality is

That I will never be able to feel what you feel.

Think what you think.

For that matter,

Sense what you sense.

But I digress,

Like any preacher

Or teacher

That never seems to address the subject matter at hand.

Well, let me tell you,

I am someone that has suffered from different types of oppression.

It might not mean anything to you though

Because sometimes we become complacent with what we have

Or what we get.

I don’t blame you.

I don’t even blame you,

When you pass me by,

On the street,

And don’t notice me.

I am not famous by any means.

I even seem to blend in with the crowds,

But deep down I am distinct.

Except you probably won’t know this

Because to you,

I might be a ‘nobody’.

A soul without a ‘name’.

But I do assure you,

I have a lifetime of experience to attest for it.

Do you want to hear?

I am sure you don’t,

And if you do,

Well, then I am glad to know you can open your heart.

Compassion is a trait to embrace,

Which I embrace everyday.

So, Who am I?

A person you could never efface.

A person to stand up next to

And fight for justice today.
