Who am I?
Location
From the top of the stair a whisper came
Who are you, and what is your name?
I responded with I’m your babysitter and it’s getting late
My name is Sarah and your parents are on a date
A shrug of the shoulders, a quick wipe of the eye
Little Jonny was headed back for beddie-bye.
He turned quickly and told me I forgot to answer a very important question
Who I was, I apparently forgot to mention.
He asked if I was good or bad and if there was a difference
Asked me for my favorite color and how I define innocence
I responded in a quick fashioned manner
That little philosopher forgot I was the planner
He needed some sleep, but before he went
He wanted to know if I have used my time well spent?
I nodded and agreed to get him to bed
Get him to sleep or my job will be dead
I thought with deep curiosity how I know
After all tennis playing teen is all I can show
Yes I am caring, and kind like any lady should be
Volunteering my time to help those in need
But who am I to others and myself
Am I someone who just sits idle on a shelf?
I sit in class, silent and smart
Doing my work and hiding my art
Am I doing any favors by not raising a voice?
Being kind and gentle after all is my choice
I can be loud and aggressive when I am on the court
And even playing with kids while building a fort
How I treat others is what defines me
Always being a friend, is what I can guarantee
Helping and serving all that I meet
Strong in my faith like concrete
One thing I know is I’ll always stay true
To who I am and what it is I’m supposed to do.
