Who Am I ?

Who am I behind the camera? What do I see when the sun doesn’t shine on me and mask my imperfections? Who am I after I spend hours editing just to cover a few blemishes? We’ve become so entranced in this social media game, we don’t know our true selves. We’re hoping for 15 minutes of fame. We’re looking for a like, a comment, some publicity. What’s a selfie without the right angles, the makeup, and the filters? Is it real beauty when it’s so modified that you barely recognize yourself? You look in the mirror and that’s the real you. The true beauty that you won’t let shine through. The blemishes, the scars, that’s who you are; the frizzy hair, the mismatched skin. When is this going to end? We’re so enveloped in the endless possibilities, we forget the real world, and that’s the one we all see. The times we’re too lazy to apply concealer, the extra coat of mascara, or the perfect curl of our hair. It’s an endless battle; one we won’t win if we keep giving in. Beauty is my acne, my stretch marks, my scars, and I might not always be happy, but I am perfectly flawed.
