Where I'm From (Remix)

I am from lilac bushes
Growing tall and full like small trees
Blooming a beautiful purple in the spring
And filling the yard with a wonderful scent
That can comfort me even now,
Even on my worst days

I am from rock concerts
Full of energy and full of life
Both the performers and audience screaming
As if tomorrow will never come
And managing to jump and dance around
Even though our feet are killing us

I am from “You’re just a teenager.”
From “It’s just hormones.” and “There’s nothing wrong with you.”
Despite my best efforts to help myself
Nobody else was willing to help me
As if my problems and worries weren’t real
Just because I’m young

I am from Christmas Eve
The whole night spent in my Grandma’s living room
With a big dinner and exchanging gifts
And a whole lot of wonder
As my Grandpa, dressed as Santa,
Walked through the door with a sack of presents

In my nightstand drawer is a journal
Filled with my feelings, my heart beaks,
Overflowing with raw emotion
I am from the words on those pages
Words that I could never show the world
Because my inner battles are so gruesome
