Where I'm From

Tue, 01/17/2017 - 13:36 -- duroJan

I am from climbing trees and chasing lizards,

from dragons

and chatting with the neighbor’s dog.

I’m from dirt and grass food creations,

and hammock swings in the shade.

I am from Dead Man Rise to Foxes vs. Wolves,

from shy endeavors

and singing and plays.

From creative stories

that never left the bedroom walls.

I am from Texas to Kentucky,

from hurricanes to tornadoes.

I am from thinking January was a summer month,

from not even knowing who or what Sonic was.

I am from long summer days at the neighbor’s

spent playing games,

from getting used to the cold.

I am from lost friendships and new ones,

from a mix of being praised for my art

and being scolded.

From tear-stained pictures

and ideas long forgotten.

From ignorance to heartache.

I am from refusing to read Harry Potter, to now loving it,

from sci-fi books and movies.

I’m from lined and copy paper,

to a real sketchbook and art pencils.

I am from game ideas and concepts,

from striking art,

and liking things that are different.

I am from no clue what to do with my life,

to maybe starting to see a little light at the end of that tunnel.

I’m from my own head and issues,

from my times alone

never ceasing.

I’m from my experiences,

my hopes and my dreams,

and the crashes and burns that I've had.

I am from all these things

and still more to come.

I am from what makes me,

me.
