Where I'm From

Location

I am from the tiny, lushbackyard in Small Town America, from AWC, shiny Fender guitars and acrylic paints on canvas.

I am from the "last house on the left" with the crumbly concrete porch and the weeping cherry.

I am from the snap dragons and day lilies, the hyacinths and maple trees.

I am from Christmas spent at Grandma's and artistic ability, from Michael, Howard and Judy.

I am from the mediating of my brawling cousins and horseback riding in the freshly fallen snow.

From hide and seek games at church and a world of make believe.

I am from the Church of Christ, from the constant additions, moving from rows to cirlces, a safe haven.

I'm from Detroit Rock City, daughter of Mike and Judy, from peach cobbler and barbeque.

From the High School sweethearts who met in graphic arts, from the camera that neeeded to be returned and the relationship that followed.

I am from road trips, gigantic bonfires, and evening walks through the metro parks.
