Where I'm From

Sat, 01/18/2014 - 19:34 -- faith01

Where I’m from,

lost and lonely people

hang in basements and carports.

Memories of past afflictions never fade.

Love is something you just give away.

I’m a Mississippi queen

with wishbone dreams

and secret sisterhood languages.

Where I’m from,

dance and cheerleading

Have become a plague.

Family dinners make for

9 hole golf

and church hymns never stop.

Where I’m from,

dogs lick faces,

and twins came in 1995,

Christmas sweeps through houses,

And jello cake is a poisonous addiction.

McDonalds is the Sunday meal,

Stitches and hospital visits

Are a regular occurrenceA.

Where I’m from,

friends come and go,

mistakes are lessons learned

and parents keeps tabs on the

delinquent could be’s.

miracles happen,

unique is just an idea,

but slowly the merry-go-round

turns into the less popular

and more innocent dreams

of the here and now.

Tucked away in the attic,

are newspaper cut-outs,

accomplishment of generations past.

Those people define me,

their faces sweep through time

a divine lifeline,

Until kingdom come.
