Where I am From

I am from cheer and laughter.

From sweet tea to bitter lemonade.

I am from hugs so meaningful your heart

shines light.

I am from goodnight kisses to early morning hugs.

I am from great wishes and fulfilling dreams, but also

from phrases like be careful what you wish for.

I am from cracked windows and chipped paint.

From faded pictures to everlasting memories.

I am from soft breezes and marmalade skies to

icy storms and grey skies.

I am from the ticking of time to an automatic stop.

From ugly seeds to beautiful flowers.

I am from muddy water beneath my toes to soft sand

from the beach.

From broken tree limbs with outcomes of shiny red apples.

I am from a happy life with lots of smiles

and silly family pictures.

I am from a double life.

From rural to urban civilizations.

One minute it's muddy boots and horses.

The next minute it’s clean sneakers and perfect hair.

I am from boot, scoot, and boogie.

From dancing in the rain to scootin in the barn.
