When I Was A Child

Location

When I was a child I heard a voice
It was soft and low, maybe an evil tone
At the time, how was I supposed to know?
When I was a child I played with shadows
I chased them around, they didn't make a sound
I laughed like a happy clown
When I was a child I was scared of the dark
I thought monsters would come for me like hungry sharks
They lived in my closet and under the bed
Later on I realized it was all in my head
When I was a child my life was innocent and pure
That's how most of us wanted it to remain I'm sure
But things change, darkness comes and light fades
Fairy tales end and reality reigns
When I was a child I wanted to fly
Soar through the wind and glide
I would love to be invincible and never die
Wouldn't we all?
Now I'm just struggling to survive and not fall
When I was a child the world was easy, nice and breezy
I wish it were still that way
