What's a Grandparent?

What's a Grandparent?

It's a picture on a wall,

A story to be heard,

A vase filled with ash,

A memory that never lasts.

What's a Grandparent?

It's a stranger who we mourn,

A branch on the family tree,

A friend who holds you close,

A person who is adored.

What's a Grandparent?

It's a man who leaves before birth,

A woman who dies before hello,

A man who you rarely see,

A woman who is miles away.

What's a Grandparent?

It's the question I always ask,

A concept unknown to me,

A reality for almost everyone,

A person my kids will have and see.
