None of us are what we seem to be; we have our scars.
We carry secrets, pain, baggage, feelings, and thoughts
That we keep hidden away from the unforgiving world.

We put on a smile to mask our anger and confusion.
We wear confidence when we are simply falling apart.
We sport friendliness when we want to be left alone.

We act happy so no one can see the tears in our eyes.
We perform funny to hide our shattered, breaking hearts.
We portray that we know it all when we don’t have a clue.

We make-believe we are cool instead of just being ourselves.
We pretend to be something when we feel like nothing.
We stage a fake us because we don't want to be broken again.

None of us are what we seem to be; we have our scars.
We carry secrets, pain, baggage, feelings, and thoughts
That we keep hidden away from the unforgiving world.
