What a Terrible World
I see trees of brown
Wilted roses, too
I see them die from me and you
And I think to myself:
What a terrible world
I see skies of smoke, and clouds of gray
The dark, polluted day
The light polluted night
And I think to myself:
What a terrible world
The color of the rainbow, never seen due to drought
Are also the faces of those killed for the words coming out of their mouths
I see protesters barraging against police, screaming incoherently
But they’re really saying “we want justice! We want peace!”
I hear mothers cry
And I watched them manhandled across the border
They’ll experience much more than I’ve ever learned
And I think to myself:
What a terrible world
Yes, what a terrible world
