What is Lost

The moon shines

Spreading glittering rays

Reflecting off of lakes

Like broken shards of light

The air hangs heavy

With the sweet smell of nothing

With gusts of light cool wind

With the tentative swirls of fireflies

Her breath is warm

The touch of her hair fleeting

Silk shifting in the endless breeze

Dancing eyes teasing

The night sky glitters

Inlaid with diamonds of cold hard steel

Blanketed by the warmth of space

Bulging with emptiness

The soul is lost

Tempted by the shining moon

Beguiled by the night sky

Seduced by the sweet honey of her voice

Helplessly drowned in a sea of longing

Caged by its own adorations

Leashed by the mistress of temptation

Oh it aches for the feel of love

For the warmth of a beating heart

So close yet so far away

In the calming embrace of despair

The night wears long

Like a true love’s kiss

The remnants of a torn heart

Drift to wayward places carried by the breeze

The air trembles with tangible tension

The moon glistens sickly yellow

The smooth taste of sweet air

Replaced by the pungent scent of despair

Of things long lost

Hidden under seas of sorrow

Watched over by the guardians of misery

Shielded from the minds of the unfortunate

The blush of her cheeks replaced by sallow pale

The brightness of her eyes conquered by the dull scepter of hatred

Her hands like icy scimitars piercing the heart

Her breath the bane of thousands

It is no more

Long forgotten by those who forget

Abandoned by the fortress of mind

Lost from the cradle of man
