What I Keep and Where It's Kept

I keep glue on my fingers so nothing falls apart

So my hands stay stuck to those of my family

Of my friends

So I’m not alone in the void of the world

And maybe sometimes so they’re not alone too.

I keep notes on my palms so I don’t forget the words

So I always remember what’s important to me

To the world

So I don’t get too caught up in the little things that never seem to mean a thing

And fix my eyes on the big, wide future that means the universe.

I keep jokes on my arms so I know how to laugh

So I know that not everything has to be life-or-death-apocalypse-what-to-do

Is it over?

So I can see that the world is still good, still bright, still free

And to make sure that everyone else can still see it too.

I keep art on my chest so beauty’s close to my heart

So I’m forever certain that life is best in Technicolor

In the rainbow

So I know there’s still something left to create

And think that there’s still a chance of me creating it.

I keep revelations on my legs so I’m sure they happened

So my skull stays full of all I’ve learned

Of everything left

So I can teach all I know to all who want to learn

And so all can be taught to me in turn.

I keep goals on my feet so I never stop moving

So I know what I’m aiming for

What I’ll be

So I don’t fall down and get stuck in the overwhelming muck of aimlessness

And begin to live to exist instead of living to be.

I keep self on my face so it doesn’t get left behind

So everything else stays where it’s meant to be

Where it’s needed

So I don’t lose my glue

My notes

My jokes

My art

My revelations

My goals

And so I never forget where I came from, who I am.
