It taught me how to express myself in ways my body couldn’t,
It taught me how to speak out and touch people thru my words,
It taught me how to think courageous when everyone told me I shouldn’t,
It taught me that using bigger vocabulary isn’t just for scrawny nerds.
Like a mother it nurtured me,
Like a father it made me respect myself,
Like a sibling it helped me get along with all my flaws,
Poetry like a friend, I couldn’t do it without your help.
From Mr. Hughes and Mrs. Angelou,
I will never stop loving you,
Be there at my wedding,
First child birth, watch em grow up,
Lull my ears on my deathbed...
That is what, I've learned from you.
