We walked

Freedom and equality, what you and I need,
Oh how prosperous this world could become, if not for greed,
This land is your land? This land is my land?
I wish I could rise tall and sing this but I can’t stand,
You see, how can a man stand, with no land? Beneath his feet,
They say this is not our land, they say this is theirs,
We fought and prayed, but what stayed the same were tears,
Like a might river, rolling down each cheek
Violence wasn’t the answer so we tried not to make a peep,
So we walked, in silence,
Dogs bit,
But we walked.
Smoked bombs and fires lit,
But we walked
Brothers and sister lynched
But we walked.
