We Shall Overcome
I come from
Sobbing sirens & broken traffic lights.
Hangings in the daylight,
Hooded figures breaking Bones,
Bodies,
Blacks.
Shattering Glass is my music.
And unanswered prayers,
And twisted thoughts.
He wills flames from that lighter,
Those lyrics become my Song.
Broken promises make up my garden.
In it, he plants cigarette Butts and his Hopes
Quenching them with his pain and his Past,
Feeding Dead things with Dead tears.
I come from
The definition of Color.
The Black that resides in my habitat;
The White that expells,
Exterminates
And Right there -
In plain Sight,
They
Shot Him,
Killed Her,
Took Them,
Denied Me.
And We Were Erased.
We've Been invisible for Centuries.
I am the
Perspiration that drips,
His blood that Rushes like rivers.
Those Horrors feed him,
Power his Voice to
B O O M
and
R E V E R B E R A T E
Across the Capital
of A Country promising
Equality for
ALL
And Brotherhood,
And Love,
I come from
His Dream.

This poem touched me because I've gone through some of the same things; it was deep.

The lines
"In plain Sight,

Took Them,
Denied Me.
And We Were Erased.
We've Been invisible for Centuries."
gave me chills! I haven't heard a poem that powerful in a while. It's definitely relatable especially in black communities. Well done, I envy your perfect words.
saudade
