we only have each other

WE ONLY HAVE EACH OTHER
BY MIRA WILDER

If the sun can rise on another day
the hope in our hearts will
never fade away
A wish for tomorrow
will  keep us alive
Oh sister we must survive
we only have each other...

It wasn't much better
when they took us away
we were dirt poor
then made into slaves
Papa carried mama
to his dying day
oh sister we must survive
we only have each
other,

Let's dream of places
we've never been
to outlive the Nazi's'
murderous sin's
We'll keep each other safe
until the end
oh sister we must survive
we only have each other

They lead them away,
experiment in anatomy
people left barren
walls of deadly wire
at our feet
in this ghastly fire,
oh sister we must survive
we only have each other.

Dogs fare better
and humans adapt
holding on to memories
no time left
dreaming of the future is all we have
oh sister we must survive
we only have each other.

Everyone's gone now
don't know what we'll find
going through motions
bereft, but not blind
we'll make a future
and heal in time
for our children's
children we must survive
we only have each other.
