We Are Champions

You have probably never heard from me much,
Or look at me much,
Or think about me much
But I’m the girl in corner,
Who people believe has no name,
Who cannot speak and can only whisper,
But today I will annunciate with clarity and intensity,
That no one will recall the quiet girl in the corner.

Every day I stagger into this school to receive an education,
To accomplish my goals in life.
So it is awfully delightful to see how this secondary school- my secondary school,
Places an excess amount of emphasis on sports,
In which all students benefit from.

I guess since we are football state champions,
We don’t have to perform anything except plays on the field
And algebra only contains x’s and o’s.
A good deal of the school budget should be properly spent on new equipment and team uniforms,
That only sixty students out of the three thousand get to use.
But as long as we keep pushing ourselves to keep our state championship title,
There is no need to worry about the pedestrian little things.
Such as the pass rate for state exams,
That we rank forty-ninth out of fifty states that have the best education,
Having an efficient amount of textbooks without borrowing from nearby schools,
And teachers that teach to lead the next generation to greatness,
Not to receive the next paycheck.
Since we are state champions-the best of the best,
None of this matters.

Let us all attend our sport games,
More than we attend school.
Let us pay attention to stats,
Rather than pay attention in class.
Let our name in sports rise,
While our academic letter grade fall.

Unfortunately, no one wants to hear me,
A girl who is trying to speak out for the first time.
They all ignore me and shrug me off,
Oblivious to reality
Because nothing I state matters.
We are champions- the best of the best,
And that is what only truly matters.
