Water

Location

What sustains life on earth

What began life on earth

What we rely on day by day for the relief in our bodies

It’s chopping the thread that holds his life

The thread is cut deep

But it’s not intangible

Slowly his body starts to recover from the nearly sharp knife

The knife that touched his lips in a liquid form of water

The fourteen days spent ill

The fourteen days spent in the bathroom

The fourteen days when the bacteria ruled the life inside him

The fourteen days of war in his body has passed

His thirty days back home has passed

His face merely skin and bones

His body sucked out like a vacuum

His name was dad

The near killer of my father

The deadly grip on his life

The very thing we hold to for life

But why was it the criminal

It’s worse in Haiti

It’s worse in Zimbabwe

It doesn’t exist in the U.S.

So should we not care?

Cholera in developing nations

Is a thing of the present

Everyone should have access

To clean water, THAT should be the present
