Wake up call

High school senior called out of class

sweat dripping, heart racing

dragging her feet in the grass

it was time to face reality

arrested twice at age seventeen

realizing now this isn’t a dream

knowing it’s time to change

it is time to face reality

expelled from school

deciding to accept treatment

it was all about to change

clean and sober since the fall

finishing high school early

soon to leave for the university

into her favorite college of them all

but no more free passes

seven months later

seven months of prayer

she lives a new life

and has never felt greater
