Village Soup

Once upon a time in a land far away,

There was a village hidden, where you weren't welcome to stay.

There traveled a homeless man for a meal, just a bite or two.

He asked if anyone could make him some stew.

Everyone shunned him and said "Leave!" in a horrible tone,

Except for one little boy, who offered him a stone.

He said, "This is yours, It's all I've got."

The old man smiled and brought out his pot.

He poured in the water and dropped in the stone.

As they lit the fire, the boy said, "See you are not alone."

The old man shouted, "What a fine stone soup this shall be!"

All the neighbors began to look about and see.

Some angry villagers said, "He has no veggies and no meat, not even a pea,

How can he make soup? How can this be?"

Next, a window opened and a woman curiously peered out,

"I've got some cabbage!" She began to shout.

They added the cabbage and the smell filled the air.

About this time, everyone began to stare.

The homeless man said, "My name is Kenny, Won't y'all come eat?"

He said the whole village could take a seat.

They noticed there wasn't much to share,

That would hardly be fair.

A gentleman arrived with a few pounds of beef,

Everyone shouted "What a relief!"

The little boy told Kenny, "Now our bellies will be full tonight,

This village is really alright."

By this time everyone was adding something new,

"Here's some carrots, I'd like to add something too."

They ate together the rich and the poor,

For there were barriers no more.

The homeless man was about to leave,

As a man stopped him and said, "Hi Kenny, I'm Steve."

He motioned for him and turned a knob,

"I'd like you to stay, here's your home and a job."

Kenny smiled and thanked the Lord,

For a meal and a home he once couldn't afford.

As the boy hugged him and said, "See you around,"

The homeless man said, "It's you, I'm glad I found."
