Very Near

America, so beautiful

How proud our people sing

Of hope and opportunity

How sweet freedom rings

There are those who wish to dim us

To drown our voices out

But for we love our country so

Loudly will we shout

Of course there is a dark side

Just like all things in life

Like the storm before the rainbow

A storm of hate and strife

Not all men are equal

Nor are women though

Skin color still determines

How far in life you’ll go

If we could only look at merit

When deciding who could work

And determining their paychecks

Many wouldn’t be so irked

But there is still more sunshine

Than it could ever rain

There is far more beauty

Than ever was there pain

We can marry whom we choose to,

We can work in our dream careers

And though our country isn’t perfect

It is very near

I love the land I live in

Dearly with all my heart

It takes more than imperfection

To break a country apart

So we’ll keep moving forward

Through the trials every day

For we all love America

God bless the USA!
