Vanquished

Mahogany orbs staring lifelessly.

The azure backdrop oozes crimson.

Gone.

Thump, thump, tick, tock.

Her heart is a broken clock.

Clock stopped ticking, time's up.

An eerie chill has swept through my soul.

Gone.

The tempest howls a cacophony of agony.

A siren's crescendo shatters my being.

The essence of evil has poisoned the earth.

A worthless sacrifice she made, and now the price has been paid.

Gone.

She smothered her flame, not an ember remained.

She has lost this eternal game.

The sluicing serpent comes for his prize.

Its deadly fangs sink into her chest.

The crystallized burning rushes through my spirit.

My heart has cracked in sync with her’s; she is dead.

A lifeless husk stares at me with her face.

Her spirit is dragged to a phosphorescent void.

Torture reigns and love is no more.

Half of me is gone, eroded away.

I am cold while her spirit burns.

I stare at that thing, it's no longer her.

My pain intensifies; the serpent removes its fangs.

It slithers up my bodice and whispers my name.

"Do you wish to follow her?"it asks serenely.

"You can't have her, you have no right!"

The serpent started and gave me a slickery smile.

"Why, of course I have right, she forfeited her life."

And that's when I knew and faced the truth.

She chose her path so that’s the end.

Gone, gone away is my dearest friend.

Game over, it’s done.

Temptation has won.

Half my soul is burned away.

The rest will stay frozen till the end of days.

She is gone from this world, on to the next.

I will remember her with every breath.

In spirit we are connected, this will always be true.

Protect those you love, so they don't leave you.
