Untainted

You are so new to the world, so free and innocent.

You don't care about the time, or the place, or the means.

All that matters to you,

is the feeling of the sun on your velvet soft skin,

and the way Daddy's beard tickles your cheek.

At this moment,

all that matters to you

is having us by your side.

I know this won't last forever.

That, as you grow,

the world will lie heavy on your shoulders.

That you won't care about the way the sun feels on your skin,

or how Dad's beard used to make you giggle.

That you will moan and groan

about how you hate growing up.

That you will scream, and beg, and cry

for all the unbearable pain to just go away.

You don't know that these things wait for you,

and what a joy that is.

You are carefree and jubilant.

You don't worry about the little thing like I do.

You are so new, and free, and innocent.

Untainted by the world around you.
