Unsaid

You don't need to do this, she said

No, it’s fine! I replied. I want to, I said

Because I love you, I thought.

You don’t have to if it’s too much trouble, he said

No, it’s fine! I replied. I want to, I said

Because I love you, I thought.

I wish I could tell

The words are on the tip of my tongue

But locked away is where they stay

I wish I could say

But those four words stay unsung

And the moment passes, and here they dwell

Because I love you!

I say

I sing

I shout

In my head

But the words never pass my lips

Locked safely away

And even though the balance never tips

(And resolutely, there it’ll stay)

I am here

Forevermore, forever yours...

Because I love you.
