Unrequited

Fri, 01/20/2017 - 23:57 -- Arakei

“I think to call it love would be too much.

It’s all a passing phase,” I shrug and say.

But still I smolder at the slightest touch.

I only hope it isn’t true, I pray…

You have the sweetest voice, so soft and kind,

your chocolate eyes are like a world apart.

You set off all the fireworks in my mind,

and longing burns away my youthful heart.

I know that I can never be with you,

and knowing this, I turn and heave a sigh.

I’ll shield myself, pretending it’s not true.

I’ll clench my fist and wait for love to die.

Until it does, your warm delightful smile

will only serve to strengthen my denial.
