They say it just takes time, but letting go of certain occurrences isn’t always that simple.
Especially if it stole your childhood at age four, forcing you to grow up before it was your time to.
All your innocence disappears and the cold truth about the world is no longer hidden.
It makes you begin to envy all the kids who grew up in a semi-normal way without a care in the world.
Especially if the flashbacks decide to haunt you during those sleepless thought provoking nights. Those damn flashbacks…
It’s when you’re at your most vulnerable point and can’t run away from them even if your heart dared you to. That’s when it really hits you the most. It’s so tough to forget what’s made such an impact in your waking life. “This is so stupid!” you scream. You try and you try and you try, but it all eventually comes back to you. If you think about it, the mind works as a boomerang. As much as you attempt to dispose any bad memories, they somehow return to knock you off your feet. Any recovery made up to that point will be erased and back to the flood of emotions you go! Are you ready to start over again for the hundredth time? The moral of the story with letting go of painful memories is that if you’re one of the lucky ones, it may cease over time, but the sting of it all is inevitable.
