Unearth the Buried

Location

Chained and slightly battered,
The oppressed, gay, different, strange, unaccepted
Lie beneath their feet, beneath the dirt; trapped amongst the past oppressed
Such as my fellow African Americans,
Me,
Alone, afraid to be myself
Considered less than because of whom I desire
Freedom is what I seek
The bells and hollers of salvation
The end of degradation; the social separation and modern, mental segregation
Free me, free us; a generation rooted in hate
Hate of what is disparate, what is not of the "norm"
Freedom is what I seek
No more ridicule or head bowing
A chance to enjoy connubial bliss with whomever I wish
Let me revel in that splendor
For am I not human too?
So who is society to keep me buried, to keep me caged
I am me, yes a homosexual entity
Allow me to change your perception, letting me be free
No longer shall I gasp for air, clawing at the surface
The light of day shall grace my cheek and I shall glow, hair dancing in the wind because
Freedom is what I seek
A change, sudden disturbance in the force
A shift in the gravel, a shift in society's bigotry conception
Shall release me, release my fellow oppressed
The earth shall split in two
Awakening that sense of freedom in me and you
A sense of morality gained for the trenchant tyrants
Letting me, letting us,letting it
Be free
