Understated

The weight of words are incongruent

Despite the efforts you made

Your’s were never deemed confluent

The illusive link and its many herrings

Only served with an annual dose

Of aggression mistaken for caring

What didn’t kill you managed you

It made you timid and complacent

Your performance so subdued

“Stop murmuring, speak up”

The anger leaves you buzzing

Belonging in the never-enough club

Until a stranger starts to ask

“Where’s the effort?”

“You have the potential to overcome any task.”

Met with the spotlight

Understated talent pulled

Out from the silent night
